Does the Country Care Enough?

At Beechtree Totalcare we are saddened but not surprised by the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) report "Close to home: older people and human rights in home care" that was launched this week. Having worked in the care sector for many years we have experienced at first hand the escalating demands and the ever-diminishing resources available to meet those demands. And we feel moved to respond to some of the issues raised by this report.

Poor Jobs Response

With Health Secretary Andrew Lansley reporting that the number of people in Britain aged over 85 has almost trebled in the past 25 years and is set to double within the next 20 years, a job in the care industry is future proofed.

Personal Budgets for Social Care

Beechtree Totalcare were not surprised to read the recent report from the Audit Commission which claimed that most councils were struggling to give people their own budgets to spend on social care. Since the introduction of the new scheme in 2007 only a small proportion of their clients have moved to personal budgets.
